The election is over. Our next president has been elected, and I am happy that it is the man who I voted for.
I do not wish to spend too much time delving too deeply into the nonsense that has and will come out on the news over the course of the next couple of months. I choose to focus on the realness of the situation. I choose to continue to focus on the things that people won’t say out of political correctness. I choose to translate the bullsh%t that has been and will be said for the bullsh%t that it means.
I have listened to many people play it humble and say, “Obama’s victory isn’t just a victory for black people (or “African Americans”), but a victory for the whole country.” I have heard many commentators speak about how the racial barriers that have divided this country for decades – if not a couple of centuries – have now been torn down. Unfortunately, I must – to some extent – disagree. I agree that it has been proven that it is a significant turning point in this country’s history – one that begins America’s process of redemption amongst the global community.
However, I see the world in a different light beyond the parties and world-wide celebration. I am already looking towards when the party is over and business must begin. Please understand that that President-Elect Obama’s victory; while it does bring to reality both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “dream” as well as Sen. Robert Kennedy’s prediction that within 40 years we would have a black president, it does not instantly nullify the sentiments of those who openly stated ignorant beliefs about President-Elect Obama. It does nothing to make the Sean Hannity’s and Bill O’Reilly’s of the world go away.
When G.W. Bush was elected we got more than “tested.” To be blunt, we – Americans – had our asses handed to us. I would not be surprised if some wing-nut decided he wanted to “test” President-Elect Obama; however, I am more of the belief that the leaders of the foreign nations we have issues with will be more willing to work things out with someone who is more interested in finding mutually beneficial resolutions as opposed to someone who just wants to tell them what they are going to do.
You see, I believe that this is the greatest country on the planet, but it is still just "A" country on the planet. We all have to live here and we all want the best for ourselves and SHOULD want the best for our fellow man. In short, look at it like this ... Michael Jordan and Larry Bird may have been two of the best basketball players to ever play the game, but the fact of the matter is they were members of a team. The Republican Party must come to terms with the realization that even the leader of a team is still a part of the team.
Now ... if supporting the President is a requirement of proof of one’s patriotism – whether his decisions and actions are right or wrong; ethical or unethical; legal or illegal; moral or immoral ... after January 20th we will learn exactly just how many hypocrites there are in this country.

Granted, America has come quite a long way ... but let us not break our arms patting ourselves on the back. We still have a very long way to go.
