I’m sitting here watching the Democratic Presidential Debates, and I really can’t put a finger on how I feel about any of these candidates. What I can say is that I am not surprised to see Hillary Clinton running – I knew she was going to do that when she ran for senator of New York. I am not surprised to see John Edwards running, I knew he was going to make that move when he lost running with John Kerry. Finally, I am not surprised to see Barack Obama running. I knew he was going to make that move when he gave his address at the National Democratic Convention before the last Presidential election.
The one thing all of these people have in common is that during these times in their lives that I just mentioned is that when they were all initially asked if they were going to make this run, NONE of them gave a straight answer. They gave safe and noncommittal answers. Now, I can totally understand the reason why they gave those answers. You see, we live in a society where the media – and the people – seek to entrap you with and by your words.
We have governmental doctrine that gives us the right against self-incrimination, but our society cannot wait to use someone’s words against him or her. I understand that the reason why those candidates and any others out there give safe and noncommittal answers is because when one actually commits – and does so early in the game – that only gives his or her opposition more than ample time to go on a dirt-digging mission to attempt to discredit and or disgrace him or her.
What I am also observing is the many ways in which the media is going through extreme pains to manipulate the minds of our society to put certain emphasis on certain people. I am looking at seven candidates vying for the Democratic nod; however, the news will only focus on the answers given by and the commentary between Clinton, Edwards & Obama.
John Edwards is a weak candidate because all he can do is attack Clinton. Clinton knows in her heart that the foundation of her candidacy is based in her being the wife of the last president in office that actually made Americans happy. Obama has a good chance of garnering a great portion of the black vote, but think about it … Hillary has a double-trump up her sleeve because she’s a woman. If she plays her game tight; which I suspect she will in the months to follow, she will have her spin doctors working overtime to garner votes from BLACK WOMEN away from Obama.
With regards to Obama … the most important question we must ask – as black people – is does he really deserve the black vote? Now, I am not saying that he doesn’t deserve it. I am posing this question because our people really need to pay attention to his agenda and his politics and not just give him our vote on the grounds that he’s black. Will he be the best person for the job based on his vision for the leadership of AMERICA – not just “African” America. Trust and believe, if some of you brothers and sisters out there go to the polls thinking that Obama is going to “hook us up,” you’re going to be wasting a vote.
The Republican Party is a joke. We had 12 years of their B.S. with Reagan and G. Dubya’s daddy. We had 8 good years with Clinton in office, and the Republican Party spent more time worrying about who Bill Clinton was getting “extra-curricular” with. Let’s see if this makes sense … He was impeached because he lied about receiving fellatio, but after 6 and a half years of G. Dubya bending this country over like a scene out of The Shawshank Redemption, no one has anything to say.
The bottom line is this … our next president will be a Democrat, and will also be the one who has the best exit strategy to end G. Dubya’s illegal war, and bring our troops home.
That’s my view … what’s yours?
