Last night, I attended the 1stAnnual Black & White Ball given by my brothers of the Philadelphia Graduate Chapter of GROOVE PHI GROOVE Social Fellowship Inc.®
The brothers were accommodating enough to allow me to have a table to promote and sell copies of my book, FIND A WAY TO MAKE A WAY! and brothers who I knew as well as brothers I had not seen in years and brothers I never even met bought copies!
Philadelphia is truly the "City of Brotherly Love" & support.
In GROOVE, we party hard - but we always party with a purpose, and this ball had other purposes than food & partying. One of the members of the "Philly" Grad Chapter suffered a stroke in July. A portion of the monies made went to assist that brother and his family in their time of need. That brother was there and the ball truly raised his spirits! Additionally, with the holidays approaching, a percentage of the monies made will go to a local family that the chapter will "adopt" and insure that they too will have a blessed holiday!
As a showing of my appreciation for their support, and also in living up to my responsibilities as a GROOVE, I pledged a percentage of every book sold to their causes for the evening. At the end of the night, HRJR Enterprises MATCHED that amount!
I admit ... I am both a capitalist and an entrpreneur; however there is more to being a capitalist than trying to make a buck at any and every turn, and there is more to being an entrepreneur than just building your business, your brand, and making money. As it says in the book of Luke (12:48): To whom much is given much is required.
My brothers gave me an opportunity to advance, so it was only right that I gave something back.
I thank my "Philly Grad" brothers for their support, and I applaud them for living up to the oath we all took when we pledged; additionally, I thank them for allowing me an opportunity to live up to that oath myself!
Remember ...
FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE!!
