Okay ... Normally, I just throw out my opinions and hope you find something you can take and run with to help you on your day to day grind, but with this ... I strongly want to get some feedback.
What do you call it when you're walking down the street, coming out of a store, or getting some gas and some stranger comes up to you asking for money?
Begging and panhandling right?
SO ... what do you call it when you're stuck in traffic at a red light, or going into/coming out of the supermarket and your local EMT's, volunteer firefighters, some cheerleaders, little league team, or random group representing God knows who, comes at you with a boot, bucket, coffee can or cut-out water cooler bottle and asks for money?
Fundraising? ... Hmmm ....?
Other than City Hall getting a cut by making the latter described people pay for a permit, what is the difference?
Last night, I stopped into TGI Fridays for a drink and there was a platoon of 8th grade cheerleaders in the foyer with their coffee cans asking for donations (with two mothers there also). Almost 9 o'clock on a Friday night and these kids are out begging for money.
What has the world come to when it has become acceptable to have our kids standing in the middle of the street or standing outside of a store begging for money? On the flip-side, I've seen mall security and police chase (black) kids away who were trying to make a buck by selling candy bars; hell, at least you're getting something for your buck from them!
I understand that kids need money for uniforms, equipment, and to go on trips, but I'm not having my son stand out on some street or in front of some store "guilting" people into coming out of pocket. Personally, I would just as soon cut a check for $100 towards the cause in my son's name. I mean, isn't that what parents are supposed to do ... take responsibility for their children and provide for them what they need?
C'mon people ... Let me know what you think!
