9th Annual Fl. Willie J. Brown Scholarship Jazz Luncheon - 2008

On Sunday June 8th, 2008 - I had the distinct honor and privilege of being the Keynote Speaker for the 9th Annual Fl. Willie J. Brown Scholarship Jazz Luncheon sponsored by my brothers of the New Jersey Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Inc.®

Since January, in addition to preparing for my Masonic Raising which took place the day before, I had been preparing to deliver that address & I am both pleased and equally humbled to share with you that my address was very well received.

Even more humbling was a particular e-mail I received from my brother Fl. Kelvin Brown, Vice President of the NJ Graduate Chapter as well as creator and Chairman of the "WJB" Scholarship Jazz Luncheon:

Harold,

I just want to thank you once again for the fine job you did for us this past Sunday. I have to say without a doubt that your address was the best of all given in the nine years that we have been doing this.

This assessment is not just mine alone, I have had others come up to me after the luncheon and say the same thing to me. I think the reason that I consider yours the best was due to the fact that you just didn't address the the group at large, you made us feel that we were privy to a conversation that you were having with those two young men ... well at least that's how I felt.

I received e-mails from people stating how much they enjoyed themselves; good food, good music (Anwar Robinson {American Idol - Finalist- Season 4}), and a very good speaker!

Once again, Thanks!
Yours in Fellowship,
The Friend of your Father

WOW!
My address was "the best of all given in the nine years that we have been doing this." Considering the caliber of speakers to have graced that stage over the course of the previous eight years, that's a scary and incredibly humbling compliment to have to accept.
