CNN's Black in America

Okay ... I watched the documentary. There were areas that I found informational and others that I felt were just pitiful. I do believe that there was a balance between successful blacks and those who are struggling, but to me it seemed as though more emphasis was placed on those who are struggling.

I KNOW THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES ... but the questions that have been raised in my head are:

1. Although this documentary was about us, was it actually FOR US?

2. Is this how we want white folk to see us?

3. Should we even care how white folk see us?

I believe that there is a significant portion of White America that saw some of those stories and probably said, "I had no idea!" and yet another significant portion of White America who either watched it and said "Yeah, some of them can make it if they just get off drugs and welfare," or DIDN'T watch it but assumed that same belief.

Let's chop it up.

It's not about one person's opinion being more right than any other person's opinion. I am hoping that through different insights we can add them to our own and improve ourselves over all.
